SearchNorwich 11 cancelled – SISTRIX training going ahead

SearchNorwich 11 meetup on Thursday 12th March is cancelled. The SISTRIX training group during the day is still going ahead.

SearchNorwich 11 is cancelled – SISTRIX training going ahead.

In light of new information and further discussion in the last 24 hours, we have taken the hard decision to cancel SearchNorwich 11 and postpone future events until further notice. Our SISTRIX training session, which is a group of fewer than 10 people is still going ahead.

Why has the decision changed?

  1. In the last 24 hours, Michael Osterholm, a biosecurity and infectious disease expert has discussed two brand new studies:  i) based on data from exposed cruise ships and ii) based on data from those with single exposures, which have suggested that airborne infectivity rates are higher than initially expected and people are far more infectious before they exhibit any symptoms. This is new information and suggests some of the previous advice, such as not attending if you feel unwell may not be as effective as initially thought.
  2. With this in mind, this GIF pretty much summarises what we would like to contribute to:

  3. We have been speaking to other SEO meetup and event organisers in the UK over the last 24 hours, most of them are going to follow suit cancelling meetups.

Meetups are great, but not essential

While I think the risk right now for SearchNorwich is still “low”, nobody will be adversely affected by the cancellation – so I would much rather exercise an abundance of caution.

I’m sure some of you will see this step as either unnecessary or an overreaction – and I sincerely hope you’re right.

Thanks to everyone, especially our speakers who have been really understanding of the situation.
